Segundo Manuel Pinheiro Freitas, membro do Comitê Executivo da IAP e ex-presidente da ACMP, Vasta declarou-se chocado e triste com o que ouviu e leu sobre a proposta. O procurador da Coroa de Queensland na Austrália e membro do Comitê Executivo da International Association of Prosecutors, Salvatore Vasta, encaminhou mensagem de apoio à mobilização do Ministério Público e da sociedade brasileira contra a PEC 37/2011 – a PEC da Impunidade.
Segundo Manuel Pinheiro Freitas, membro do Comitê e ex-presidente da Associação Cearense do Ministério Público (ACMP) que recebeu o documento e reencaminhou as informações à ANPR, Vasta declarou-se chocado e triste com o que ouviu e leu sobre a proposta. Para o procurador da Coroa, até agora o Brasil tem sido visto internacionalmente como um farol da noção de independência do MP, representando a PEC um grave retrocesso para o país, justamente quando ele está no centro das atenções internacionais.
Salvatore Vasta esclarece que todos os estados australianos possuem corpos de procuradores especializados para lidar com delitos graves relacionados a esquemas de sonegação fiscal e de corrupção de agentes públicos ou praticados por organizações criminosas. Ele afirma que a qualificação e a independência dos procuradores são garantias de que as investigações serão justas e imparciais.

“While it is true that Prosecutors in Australia do not conduct investigations of what might be called “street crime”, the fact is that prosecutors work closely with the police involved so that there is a form of team work in bringing malefactors to justice.
However, all States in Australia have independent bodies of prosecutors to deal with specialised crimes such as political, government or police corruption, organised crime and sophisticated tax evasion. This is important because the lawyers are trained as to what is true evidence and the lawyers ensure that the evidence is obtained legally. Because of the independence of these prosecutors, the public know that investigations are done fairly and impartially.
Those in public office know that if they abuse their office or are corrupt, these independent lawyers will come after them and they cannot be bought or hushed up. Leaders of organised crime also know that these lawyers cannot be controlled by politicians or high ranking police. These bodies are necessary in a proper democracy.
It shocks me to hear of the proposal for constitutional change in Brazil. Up to now, Brazil had been seen internationally as a beacon of the notion of independence of the prosecutor. It would be a very sad day indeed, at a time where Brazil will be in the international spotlight like never before, if the world cannot look at Brazil in the same light because of this retrograde step.”
